Staff of the Marine
Geology Department of the Greek Institute of Geology and Mineral Exploration
(MGD-IGME) participated in the 6th Symposium of Oceanography and
Fisheries held in Chios Island in the Eastern Aegean during 23rd-26th May
2000. Poster s describing the EUMARSIN project and EU-SEASED Website were
presented at the meeting.
Survey Cruises
MGD-IGME scientists have
carried out research in the Eastern Aegean Sea in collaboration with the
Greek Navy. Sea-bed sediment samples, cores and side-scan sonar data were
acquired.
Between May and August of
this year, geologists from MGD-IGME are also collecting sea-floor
samples, shallow seismic profiles and side-scan sonar data during the survey
of a cable route in the Eastern Aegean.
